Swapping Pre-paid SubscriptionsUpdated a month ago

Recharge does not allow for native swapping of pre-paid subscriptions.

Follow these steps to swap a prepaid subscription.

Check the status of the subscription:

First, we need to determine how many boxes the customer has yet to receive for their prepaid subscription.

Go to the customer's Recharge page and look for the corresponding subscription.

Click on "Upcoming orders" and you can see how many pre-paid orders are left in the queue. In this instance there are 3 prepaid orders left on the customer's 6 month prepay subscription.

Check the customer status is Shopify

We also need to check if there is a queued pre-paid order in Shopify that will need to be updated. Remember that once Recharge places an order to Shopify, Recharge views that order as completed. However, that is not always the case. There is a period between the renewal date (i.e. January 20th) and the ship date (i.e. February 6th) where there will be an unfulfilled prepaid order within Shopify.

Go to Shopify -> Customer's Page. You can click on "view in shopify" within the recharge customer page to get there.

Check to see if there is an unfulfilled pre-paid $0.0 order that matches their subscription type.  Often times you can see this in the "Last Order Placed" tile within shopify, but you may need to click "View all orders" to get the full picture. Make sure that the order was placed by "Recharge Subscriptions".

In this case, we do have an unfulfilled prepaid order in our Shopify queue. This means that this order will have to be swapped as well as the Recharge orders.

Summary

In this instance, the customer has 4 boxes that will have to be swapped in order to properly update their subscription. 3 queued pre-paid orders within Recharge and 1 Queued unfulfilled order in Shopify. Next, we will show how to swap the products.

Swapping the subscription

There are different processes to follow depending on how many boxes there are left in a subscription as well as if the person wants to increase box size (higher price) or decrease their box size (lower price). We will start from the least complicated to the most complicated procedure.

No recharge prepaid orders and no Shopify shipments unfulfilled.

Add the new subscription

In this instance, the customer has no boxes remaining. Here we simply need to add the new subscription type and cancel the old subscription.

  1. Go to the customer's recharge page.
  2. Add the new product: Click the + Add product.article image
  3. Select the new subscription the customer wants click Next, and then chose Add Productarticle image

This will add the new subscription type and set the renewal date to be the same as the current subscription.

Cancel and Delete the Old Subscription

Now cancel the old subscription.

  1. Click Actions on the old subscription
  2. Select Cancel Subscription
  3. Follow the cancellation reason prompts and select "Other" and write a note about "Swapping Product"
  4. Delete the old subscription, Click Actions then Delete Subscription.

0 Recharge Orders, 1 Shopify Unfulfilled Order

Swapping to Larger Box (Increased Price)

If the customer wants to swap to a bigger box, we must charge them for the new higher-priced product. To do this we will create a new subscription with a discount code.
